Overview

Farmers feed our families. Period. And forests provide us with everything from the building materials for our homes to paper and cardboard boxes. But the way we treat our land, and the way we utilize its resources, are a crucial part of mitigating climate change. Forests and soil, with good stewardship and careful planning, can help us sequester carbon, reducing the greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. But as it currently stands, agriculture and forestry are not negative sources of emissions; instead, they comprise a massive 24% of global greenhouse gases. By changing the way we practice agriculture and forestry, we have an incredible opportunity to help mitigate climate change, while also promoting healthy ecosystems and potentially enhancing food security. But it will require a shift in how we think about food and the ways in which we produce it.
